What’s the difference between waxing and shaving?

Erika - Hairstylist and Alderwood Assistant Manager

Did you know the average woman spends about 58 days removing their unwanted hair using methods like shaving and waxing?

Shaving actually cuts the hair, leaving the root and part of the hair to grow out with a blunt edge which makes hair appear darker. Regrowth occurs in a matter of hours to days, and side effects also include the lovely razor burn and goosebumps like nobody’s business.

Eyebrows: 2 are better than 1

Waxing is a more efficient way to remove unwanted hair and will dramatically decrease the amount of time you spend on hair removal. Waxing removes hair from the root and the hair grows out from the follicle at a point, appearing to be more fine. Hair can take at least a week to show so waxing also lasts a bit longer. It is recommended to stay out of UV rays and to keep the area clean and free of make up for 24 hours.

Facial waxing (brow, lip, chin) is something that can be done at your local Elle Marie Hair Studio at the same time as your color or haircut appointment!

Sophia Vergara goes back to her roots for Spring

Holly McMurray - Hair Stylist (Lake Stevens)

Sofia Vergara from the TV show Modern Family is going back to her roots. The actress who is best known for her long, flowing brunette hair and enviable curves traded in her signature look for a warm Ombre blonde color. There is no better time than now to make the change from a sultry dark hair color to a bright and beautiful spring style.

This look is easy to create by lightening the ends of the hair and adding more foils around the face to create a nice bright tone without a ton of maintenance. Finally, I would recommend finishing off the hair style with a nice vanilla cream glaze, then style with Pureology's Silk Bodifier for volume and Pureology's Precious Oil to smooth down hair and to offer more added shine.

Elle Marie Styles Hair Backstage at 2013 Miss Seattle Pageant

Tiffany, Betty and Leah snap one last photo with the Miss Seattle contestants just prior to the pageant

We were honored to be asked to help with hair backstage at the 2013 Miss Seafair Scholarship Pageant. On Sunday, March 10th I escorted Tiffany (Mill Creek), Leah (Lake Stevens) and Betty (Mill Creek) to the IKEA Performing Arts Center in Renton where 10 beautiful and talented ladies took the stage in hopes of becoming the next Miss Seattle.

While our ladies worked their hair magic in the dressing room, I took the opportunity to sit in the empty auditorium and watch each of the contestants warm up for the talent portion of the competition. I won't lie, this was a fun opportunity for me. While all of the performances were amazing, I felt like I had an inside track to who would do best in that portion of the competition. My early favorite was Allison Hopkins whose voice absolutely blew me away. Amanda Anderson sounded great as well and had amazing stage presence. Angelica Casimiro was also impressive as she turned the stage into her personal dance floor. Add a comment
