Why does my hair seem to lack moisture after I blow dry?

(Published in the "Experts Explain" section of a March 2016 edition of the Lake Stevens Ledger.)

During this time of year I have noticed that a lot of my clients suffer with dry hair while styling. I have found that Redken Pillow Proof Express Treatment Primer is an amazing product to help nourish, hydrate and prep hair for a smooth blow dry. It reduces blow dry time and protects the hair from heat up to 450 degrees. Because this is a treatment styler, make sure to apply to towel-dried hair before any of your other favorite Redken products.

Why does my hair feel weighed down and dirty after I wash and condition it?

(Published in the "Ask the Experts" section of the March 4, 2016 edition of the Mill Creek Beacon.)

When you are conditioning your hair, the conditioner is just for your ends. It is meant to detangle and moisturize. If you put it on your roots you will get build up and that greasy look that no girl wants!

What is the purpose of a clarifying shampoo?

(Published in the "Experts Explain" section of a February 2016 edition of the Lake Stevens Ledger.)

If you hair is misbehaving, it could be due to product or environmental buildup. Clogged hair follicles cause hair not to grow and it builds up on the hair weakening the strands. This, in turn, causes it not to style properly as well. It is good to clarify your hair once every few weeks with a good clarifying shampoo. I like Pureology's Hair Stylist in Purify shampoo because it is sulfate free and is color safe as well.

What hair color trends are emerging in 2016?

(Published in the "Ask the Experts" section of the February 5, 2016 edition of the Mill Creek Beacon.)

As trends start to emerge in 2016, one of the most popular looks we’re seeing involves the melting of color. By starting with a soft, rooty base and gradually transitioning to lighter ends, we accomplish a look that tends to be more of a natural take on the ombre trend. I’m seeing a lot of “bronde”, a tortoiseshell color that I absolutely love. It’s soft and classic!
